Topic: Self Image and Our Heart Kids Description: As our heart kids grow they become more aware of the fact that they are different. There are certain activities they are told they can’t do, certain clothes they can’t wear, and scars left behind. A child psychologist will discuss self image issues our heart kids face, as well as have a time for an open Q&A session. Children are welcome to participate in the child life activities during the meeting but please contact Mary Adair and RSVP no later than March 19th.

February MLA of SA Scrapbook/Memory Night Date: February 28 Time: 7:00—8:30PM Location: American Heart Association Building - 8415 Wurzbach ->>map<< Conference Room Topic: Scrapbook Night Description: Parents and families of those who have lost a child to a heart condition are invited to bring photos, albums, and scrap book items. This will be a time for families to remember and share pictures of their little angels. Valerie Taylor, specialist in bereavement support groups, will be facilitating. February MLH of SA Meeting Date: February 27 Time: 6:30—8:30PM Location: John E. Hornbeak Building - 4450 Medical Drive ->>map<< On the 2nd Floor - Brazos Classroom. Topic: CPR Certification Training Description: Most of us have been trained in CPR when we took our child home from the hospital. However, for many of us that has been awhile and fell the need for a refresher course. Grandparents and caregivers are welcome to join us for the training (or a refresher). RSVP is very important for this meeting so we can be sure to have an adequate amount of supplies necessary for the training. Children are welcome to participate in the child life activities during the meeting but please contact Mary Adair and RSVP no later than February 20th.
Chick Time Date: February 23 Time: 8:30AM—Noon Location: New Life Children's Center- 650 Scarborough Road, Canyon Lake, TX 78133 Description: Join in the fun... bring your daughters and/or your best girlfriends! This month, we will be making homemade cookies, care packages, and a craft project for 'Mended Little Hearts'. This worthy charity brings comfort, education, and help to families whose children are born with heart defects. Hopefully, we will all grow in appreciation for how beautiful our lives already are... especially the New Life girls we are there to serve! CHD Week Date: February 7-14 Location: Activities being planned for both Santa Rosa downtown & Methodist Children’s Hospital Description: Many activities are being planned for this week and there are many jobs that need volunteers such as baking cookies, preparing/serving meals, setting and manning display tables, decorating, etc. Please sign up to help with these activities. This is a great opportunity to get the word out about CHD and Mended Little Hearts!

Topic: Open Forum Description: This is an opportunity for everyone to get to know other families so that all feel they have a place to be open and honest about any questions and/or concerns that they may have when it comes to having a child with a heart defect. There will also be time to discuss plans and topics for the coming year. Christmas 2007 Party— Date: Tue Dec 11 Time: 6:00—8:30 PM Location: Oxford United Methodist Church (Family Life Center)—9655 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, TX 78240 >>map<< Description: Santa will be visiting with lots of gifts for our heart kids. As you may know, we were unable to get gifts for the siblings so we encourage you to bring some wrapped gifts for your other children and Santa will be happy to deliver them as well. Please make sure they are wrapped and have their first and last names already marked on them. We also have a photographer who will take pictures for us with Santa. You will get one free picture (you can choose to have a family photo with Santa, just the kids with Santa, or just your child with Santa). You are welcome to buy additional poses from the photographer. She will be selling CD's of your pictures if you would like more. There will be a shuttle available for anyone who needs a ride to the party from Santa Rosa Hospital Downtown or Methodist Children's Hospital in the Medical Center. Directions to Child Life Activity Center: There are really only one set of elevators you can take to get to the Child Life Activity Center (CLAC) on the 5th floor. They just installed locked doors around CLAC and it is a bit of a maze to get to! When you come in the main entrance of the hospital, you will follow the main hallway ALL THE WAY down past the 2nd small reception desk. Turn right at that small desk as if you are headed towards the Pedi ER. There are 2 elevators outside of the Pedi ER. Take those to the 5th floor, turn left and left again and CLAC will be on your left. Signs will be posted for those that may get lost! Reminder: Anyone who pre-ordered a t-shirt for the AHA Walk (with the MLH of SA logo) and have not picked them up, may do so at the meeting or Christmas party. American Heart Association Heart Walk Date: November 3 Time: 8:00 AM—12:00 PM Location: Brackenridge Park, Joske Pavillion 3101 Avenue B San Antonio, TX 78209 >>map<< Description: Schedule— 7:30 am Registration begins 8:20 am Ceremony begins 9:00 am Walk begins Route— The walk route is 2.25 miles with two hydration spots. Strollers, wheelchairs, wagons and pets on a leash are welcome. Message from Dana Cooper: We are going to be responsible for handing out survivor hats. I am planning to be out there at 7:00 or 7:15 to set up our table. I assume we will have the most traffic early, people picking up hats and at the completion of the walk. Everything stays open until noon, so I will be at our table the entire time. If you can come out and help hand out hats, answer questions for people interested in our group, etc. please let me know. 210-363-0381. I am looking forward to seeing how much exposure we get for Mended Little Hearts. You can help the AHA reach their goal of $250,000 to fund cardiovascular disease research and community education programs and help spread the word about Mended Little Hearts of San Antonio while you enjoy a brisk 2.32 mile non-competitive walk in the park. Woodward, RN, FNP - UTHSC-SA Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care Description: As we approach RSV season again, Cathy will discuss more about what RSV is and how to prevent it in children with CHD. There will also be a presentation by Dr. Porsch on a recent trip to Mongolia where children with CHD received medical care. Those who are involved with the AHA Heart Walk are encouraged to bring their envelopes to Dana Cooper.
